About

For nearly 25 years, I have combed classrooms, galleries, the internet, board rooms, file folders full of data, newspaper archives and people’s memories for any details that will help me tell an engaging, accurate and convincing story. I have interviewed police detectives, policymakers, mall rats, ex-cons, professors, lawyers, high school principals, CEOs and children, as well as an extensive list of artists, authors, actors and musicians.

Communicating complex matters in an accessible manner is central to my expertise as a writer, whatever the subject. I have received multiple awards for in-depth projects that put a human face on urban school reform and innovation. I also have my byline above dozens of stories that have made fine art of all stripes friendlier to people who do not possess a PhD in semiotics.
